Business cards can make a knockout first impression and can be a permanent advertisement for your business long after they’ve been handed out. Here are 5 hot tips to ensure your cards do both.
1. Keep the information simple
When it comes to business cards, simplicity allows your design to flourish, so use the least amount of content possible. If you want to describe what you do, cull down the description to important keywords which can be placed as bullet points.
Example: Personal trainer
I offer one-on-one fitness training, large group sessions in the park, stretch and tone sessions, as well as yoga!
- Group outdoor fitness training
- Personal training
- Stretch & tone
Additionally, save room by including social media icons along with your username rather than writing the entire URL addresses.
2. Include the most important information
It’s important to publish the following:
- Keywords (see the personal training example)
- 1-3 social media links
3. Dazzle with photos
If you sell products then definitely consider using photos. Most business cards just include text, but where possible, dedicate one side to a product photo. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words! With a combination of content and images, your business card will pack a powerful punch!
4. Be aware of size and durability
Some people like to get creative with business card sizing. While custom-cut sizes are nifty, always ensure that they’re still wallet friendly.
And also, make sure to use a thick stock (300-400gsm is perfect) with a celloglaze coating such as matt (silky) or gloss (shiny) to ensure the card is durable. It will be handed out to many people who in turn will hopefully pass it along to many more.
5. Avoid predesigned templates
Don’t use predesigned templates such as from VistaPrint. They won’t uniquely match your brand, and unfortunately, these designs have all been seen before. They won’t make an impact and won’t add value to your business.
With these tips under your belt, you’re on your way to having both practical and beautiful business cards!
